Now that we have reached the summer solstice here in the northern hemisphere, thoughts are turning towards the colour of autumn and fall colour.
It should come as no surprise that the heavily wooded east coast of the USA is home to some of the finest autumn or fall colour foliage.
Every year almost 4 million visitors head to Vermont alone in autumn, making fall tourism worth a quarter of the state’s annual tourism spend.
New Hampshire will see over 8 million visitors during the colourful season and Rhode Island typically expects 30% of visitors between September and November.
So without a doubt, New England is a fantastic destination for photography.
Photographer April Bielefeldt will be hosting photographers from around the world on her three photo tours in New England for Fall Colour 2024.
Here are more details:
Week 1: October 1st to October 7th
Week 2: October 8th to October 14th
Week 3: October 15th to October 21st
All three weeks will cover mainly Vermont and New Hampshire but with some spots in Maine. Expect loads of colour, woodlands, covered bridges, farm buildings, waterfalls, winding scenic roads and pretty villages.
Alternatively, week 1 may change to being a Maine coastal photo tour, depending on the progression of fall colour in 2023. In this case photographers can expect to be enjoying lighthouses, coastal inlets, harbours with small fishing boats, Acadia National Park and scenic New England towns.
Groups are small, with a maximum of 8 participants. Tours start in Manchester, New Hampshire and the closest international airport is Boston Logan with travel connections onward to Manchester.
