By combining two key metrics—annual visitors and Instagram hashtags—the researchers created an “Instagrammability Score” (1–100) to rank the planet’s most photogenic cultural destinations.

Museums worldwide now welcome over 850 million visitors each year, proving that cultural tourism is one of the fastest-growing corners of the travel industry. Here are the top ten spots where art, history, and social media meet.


1. Vatican Museums – Vatican City

Score: 100  |  Visitors: 6.8M  |  Hashtags: 930K

Topping the list is the Vatican Museums, home to the Sistine Chapel and a treasure trove of Renaissance masterpieces. With nearly a million hashtags, this is where culture meets spiritual grandeur.

2. Louvre Museum – Paris

Score: 96  |  Visitors: 47.5M  |  Hashtags: 53M+

The Louvre isn’t just the most visited museum on Earth—it dominates Instagram too, with over 53 million hashtags, dwarfing the competition.

3. Rijksmuseum – Amsterdam
